Default Marlin model 60 feed throat question

I have a 1980 model 60 that I believe needs a new feed throat. Some ammo cycles better than others, but all produce ftf problems. My question is do I have to buy the conversion kit or can I just buy the new feed throat? I'm not sure if 1980 is considered an old model or new model. My serial number starts with 20 if that helps.
Thanks for the help,
Chuck

According to the only reference I have on hand at the moment they started manufacturing in 1981. They were marketed as glenfields before that (1960-1980). You have an old model.

You need the feed throat conversion kit. It also contains the new ejector spring, which has also been changed.

Depending on your gun some require a new bolt also.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if the feed throat is worn out on a Model 60 it has fired a million rounds or some unreal number. I am like it's time for a new marlin if I can't fix it for $20. That is just my two cents worth.

Springs first.

Lifter, FP, Recoil are the regular culprits...and the buffer. Get the Black Plastic one...numrich has 'em.

Your rifle was born in 1980...so after 32 years of wear, ya gotta expect springs to degrade.

I may throw some new springs and buffer in her too. The feed throat is on the way. We will see if that takes care of the problem. It was my fathers rifle and I want to give it to my boy when he gets a little older. It's in good shape on the outside just need to get the internals straightened out. I appreciate all the input.

Remember to do ONE mod at a time, then test...

If one does multiple things then discovers an issue, ya never know which of the 3-4 things you did that caused the issue...
so do ONE, test...if everything's ok, continue with the next mod...

I see TV gunsmith shows where folks try to do too much, and end up having to backtrack to fix it...
eats up time that could be used in other ways...like pimping Other guns

Good point big shrek. That is my plan of attack. After a lot of reading and fiddling with the gun. I decided feed throat first. If that doesn't fix it, on to the springs.

Feed throat finally arrived today. I will install in the morning when I get home from work. I will try to get some pics of ftf problems before I switch it out and report on the outcome.
