Default Marlin model 25 .22lr opinions?

I am going to make a trade for a Marlin .22lr model 25. It is scoped and in good condition. Any opinions on how these guns stand up and their overall reputation?

Decent hunting grade 22 rifle. Been around a long time. Well made, reasonably accurate. How much?

okay I did the trade on friday. In good shape with an unnamed 4x scope. decent see thru rings on it. no rust, good bore clean action well maintained. The trade was for my coleman 15' canoe. straight across. he got extras in a few paddles life jackets and car top carrier. I got a soft case 200 rounds of .22lr and some shoot n see targets. Figuring I bout the canoe on craig's list a few years ago... I think it is a great trade.

I took it to the range on Saturday after a good cleaning and had a ball shooting it. It was so much fun to just plink away. I did all shooting at 50 yards and kept all groups within 2 inches. I have to figure out which rounds it really likes and get a few more magazines for it. Now I have something to start my son out on to get him into the marksmanship.

It's a good gun. Accurate in hunting ranges for a 22 and parts are easily had.

You should be able to tighten those groups up quite a bit at 50 yards. What ammo were you using?

I was using remington yellow jackets I believe. I am going to try out some different weights/manufactures after the holidays, any suggestions?

Mine likes anything from Federals or CCI. Winchester 333s weren't bad either.

ill get some variety after thanksgiving and have an afternoon at the range. What kind of groups should I expect if I do my part? I also had a question on free floating the barrel and doing an "pencil spring trigger job" I would like some explanations please.

The pencil spring trigger means changing the trigger spring to a pen spring because it's lighter. I believe wolf makes a spring and there is also a drop in adjustable trigger for the 25s.

If I do my part, I can get a 3 shot group with all 3 touching at 50 yards.
