My first gun in 1963 was a Marlin 39A. Shortly after I retired, I found a very nice 39A Mountie, made in 1969. It shot much better than my older 39A due to the amount of rounds I put through the old 39A. I got the 39A rebarreled by the factory and it now shoots as well as ever.
My most recent gun is a 1972 vintage Winchester 9422. It has been too cold and windy to do a definitive comparison with the Marlins and Winchester, but I suspect the differences are minimal and which one you like is probably a matter of personal preference.
c3shooter, well done. I think I have a better understanding now. So I wonder, when the 39m was introduced, was it a golden from day one? Does anyony know? Thanks
1957-1987 Similar to Golden 39A except the M is carbine variation.
