Check & make sure the magwell & associated parts (latch) are solid when removed from the stock...tighten anything that you can tighten...
having to replace a magwell assembly or latch happens occasionally...

I really wish someone would come up with a better/longer mag release latch for Marlin bolt-actions & semi-autos

i have an 880sq and it is a first year production with the model 9000 bbl and im wanting to press out the rear blank and install iron sights i would really like to get a set off of a 9000 but i can even find a picture of one online so any info on that or something just as good would be much appreciated

Probably because you need to look for a Marlin 2000/2000A/2000L instead of a 9000

Sorry for responding to an old post, but the 10 round mags were designed exclusively for the Model 995, and are NOT interchangeable with the 880 series magazine fed rifles. I bought a 995 SS about ten years ago and a couple extra mags that I thought would be fun to use in my bolt gun too. I have a 70P, and 5 of the Marlin 15 round mags too...none of the auto mags work in the bolt.gun.
I own an 880 SQ too, and you'll be hard pressed to find a factory rifle that will shoot as well as these without spending four figures.

Well finally got around to fixing the Marlin the magwell was cracked,no problems now new magwell
