Good plan. Anything made prior to 1960 should stick to Standard Velo or less is my rule of thumb.
Depending on the gun, I move that up to 1968...just to factor out metal fatigue.
I'm still using a nice 1913 Marlin-37, standard velo ammo only, and it shoots like a dream
