Default Lyman target sight questions/help

I am trying to determine the model number of target sight installed on my rifle. Its 1" long, 3/4" OD, 9/16" inside diameter. The sight has a dovetail base (I am trying to determine which Lyman insert set to purchase).

also, the sight is loose enough to slide, is there a method to tighten it up?

Thanks.

Bob

Are you sure its a Lyman? The 17a is about 9/16" outside diameter, it is Lyman's most popular. Other companies also made sights that looked similar (like Redfield). Several ways to tighten it up. With a center punch you can punch the bottom of the sight or the inside of the barrel dovetail. Or with a hammer tap down on the over hanging parts of the barrel dovetail (lightly). Or put a shim of thin metal (like from a pop can) between the sight and barrel.

Remove sight, use automatic center punch to make 5 dimples on underside of sight. Punch pushing down raises a small circle of metal. Will tighten up the sight.

If you have a choice between working on one of two parts, work on the cheaper one.

It does not look like a Lyman. It looks kinda like a Redfield 60 series. But they were .625" od and .9375 long. maybe an Anshutz but I am not very familiar with them.

Thank you for the idea on center punching the sight. I added a photo of the sight insert, looks like its 11/16" diameter. My main interest is buying additional inserts.
