Hey everyone. Need to replace the old .22, so what should I be looking for? I have heard good and bad things about the Ruger 10/22. However, I have always been a marlin fan. Lever actions are cool. Simply put, I like everything and cannot decide, can someone help tell me what is an affordable plinker of a .22

I bought the S&W AR15-22 a year ago. It's more fun that a barrel of monkeys. If I hadn't bought it, I probably would have bought a Marlin 60. I just have always liked Marlin 60's.

Nothing wrong with 10/22's. I just don't really care for them for some reason.

Haha, I have always thought those new faux-AR .22s were awesome. I don't know if I can find one on my budget though. If possible I would like to keep the price in the neighborhood of $250-300.

I think the Mossberg would fit in that budget. Haven't handled one but they are on their website.

I bought an S&W 15-22 and love it! I got mine for around $480 ... it's worth it IMHO.

Well, a Marlin lever is the best since your a Marlin fan anyway
But they are pricey- Henry makes a great levergun- The plain mdls can be found in the $200 range- For $350 or so you can have a Goldenboy, butter smooth action, accurate & soooo cool-
I cant imagian what you could have heard bad about the 10-22
For the price no way to go wrong with a 10-22

For the money, the Savage rimfires are about the most accurate rifle going.
I bought a BRJ model. It shot .4" stock out of the box before break in.

I sent it to Savagegunsmithing for an accuracy package.
For less than $200. they bed the action, re cut the muzzle, do a fantastic trigger job, mine breaks like glass at 10 OZ and do a very careful lapping of the barrel just to remove the high spots. They also replace the thin bottom metal with a 1/8" thick metal, which helps the Savage a lot. The thin bottom metal is the only thing wrong with them.
My rifle now shoots right at .1" and sometimes just a little less, 5 shots @ 50 yds.
It's the best deal going. Savagegunsmithing will even get you your choice of Savage rifles, scope, mount and rings at wholesale price if you have them do the accuracy package.

It's a real great deal. The gunsmith, Scott is a true master riflesmith and knows Savages better than any gunsmith I've ever seen.
I'm a retired gunsmith, so I've seen many smiths. This guy is the real deal.

Define affordable. My very favorite 22 is my SIG 522. I traded off a Browning Buck Mark on it and do not regret it one bit. Loved the buck mark but it was not as much fun as this little rifle has turned out to be. I got $325 for the Buck Mark on trade for a $449 rifle so if affordable is $125 and a used handgun is affordable then there you go.

Henry lever action. Look for the Frontier model with the heavy octagon barrel. Awesome.

10-22 is very accurate, easily customized to fit your needs, and can be had for around a hundred bucks used. I haven't seen one shot out yet.
