I have always had an affinity for the .22WMR. I like and have .22LR rifles, but enjoy shooting the .22WMR better.

I am looking to purchase a .22WMR rifle (bolt action) and wanted to get your opinions on an innexpensive rifle. I looked at the Savage 93F, but also read that the magazines are horrible. What other rifles would you suggest in that price range?

I have a Savage 93,and have had no problems with the magazines at all.It's a great gun.
Marlin,and Browning make some fine 22WRM bolt actions as well as CZ.

A mate of mine has a Ruger 77/22 in .22WMR and loves it. It has a 9 round detachable box mag and his is in stainless steel with the black laminate stock. I must say it shoots very nicely and is a looker too.

My wife has a MK II in 17M2 and does not have any mag problems. The synthetic stock is designed for open sights so the drop is wrong for a scope. I complained to Savage about the stock. You can get a laminate stock at Boyd's for under $100 but you might want to look at one of the wood stocked models. You would also have to get a new trigger guard and screws if you replaced the stock. Her stock needed to be shortened so I bought an unfinished stock from Boyd's and cut the stock and reshaped the comb. Savage gave me the trigger guard after I complained. I finished with Tung Oil.

Quite a few .22 & .17 rifles have minor mag issues, it usualy can be resolved by "tuning" the mag...
I. E. bending the feed lips a particular way for optimal results...
or a few other little magwell/mag fiddling tricks...

But I head straight to the Marlins when I want a rimfire...less expensive, but usually more precise.

I've got a Marlin 25MN (.22WMR) that shoots tighter groups than any rifle I've ever owned.
And I've owned a LOT of rifles.
It's my go-to Coyote rifle, my sweet spot is between 100-150 yards. No Yote survives that zone.

The Marlin 925M is the current version of the 25MN, with a second action screw
(which is the second mod one generally does, right after the trigger)
and the Marlin 982-VS is the Heavy-Barrel super-precision version.

I second the Marlin - my 25MN is a very precise shooter! Those who claim the .22WMR is "inherently inaccurate" have never shot the Marlin.

One of the local gunshops had a new Marlin 925 for $235. At that price, I am wondering if it is worth hitting the pawn shops.

That's about what the OTD price would be from Wally's, after 'tax, tag & dealer prep'.
Pawnshop may give a better deal, but you'll need to haggle 'em down some. Pawnshops here start around $150 to $175 just for a ratty .22LR rifle.

I bought a new Savage 93 in 22 wmr a few weeks ago and can attest to the mag issues. I have a hard time getting mine to lock into gun. Perhaps some tuning is in order.

I got my Marlin 25MN for $85 at a pawn shop...with a cheezy TASCO crapola scope.

I shop a LOT of pawn shops...they're my favorite place to buy guns, other than P2P.
