Long arms

OK, I now have a license to carry! For my first firearm purchase, I am looking for a .22 long arm. Any suggestions, opinions out there? I was thinking of the Remington 597. Input welcomed.

You will get a ton of suggestions here!

I think the outcome will be a 10/22.

10/22!:p Just bought one about a week ago. Took it to the range and man what a blast! I havnt shot a .22 in years and I gotta say I really was missing out. CCI Mini-mag in HP, not one FTF or FTE at all! Only previous .22 Iv shot was the Marlin 60 (tube fed) and it was ok, but I love the amount of aftermarket magazines they have for the 10/22. Not that there is anything wrong with the 10-rnd drum it comes with!

I'm going to have to second the notion of a 10/22. it's a wonderful thing.

Go for a 10/22. You won't regret it.

I will also recommend the Ruger 10/22.

I had one and it was a real sweet shooter. I never should have sold it.

And I guess I'll be the first to say, go with the 597, if you want to stay relatively bone stock, and shoot well. all i've added to mine is a scope base with an 8-16 x50 scope and a bipod. but then all i've had to compare it to was myfriend's 10/22 that i don't know how or if it was cared for;)

Thanks everyone for the suggestion, opinions, etc. I did pick up a Ruger 10/22. The BF has one as well. Of course, mine's better!
