J.C. Higgins model 29 Rust help!

Hello!!

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have a few older rifles that have been passed down from this Model 29 to a Inland M1 Carbine. I have finally decided to spruce up my model 29 that was passed down from my grandfather to my dad and now its mine. The stock scope is very rusted and some other smaller spots of rust on the barrel as well. I have completely disassembled the rifle and am currently refinishing the stock and forearm with a kit from Birchwood Casey. So far it is looking good. My questions is if anyone can recommend a good kit for the rust or if there is something i can do to completely refinish all the metal.

I will post some pics of the stock and forearm refinishing soon.:D

Upon taking another look at my .22, I find that it is a Model 31 instead of
Model 29, as yours......although they look almost identical.....here's a photo of mine.....:D

Fun old guns. Made by High Standard. One of the few models out there
that will handle short/long/long rifle in any mix.

I've got a 31, with the spring loaded red nylon strap sling that's built in
to the buttstock.
