I was on my way home from shooting in the field for the second time this week and stopped for some fuel, ran into a friend who asked if I wanted to go to the local range some time...I asked, why not now? i have guns and ammo with me...he said he can usually go once a month or maybe ever other month due to time constraints and low ammo budget. I recommended he get into rimfire.


Where do you folks stand?

I agree! If budget is keeping anyone from shooting and enjoying the sport and the outdoors. You are right on! The rim fires are certainly the way to go. And beside that, they are a great way to hone your basic skills whether it is a rim fire rifle or pistol. I have a K-22 6" S&W that I like to shoot at least once a year. But speaking of rim fires. I am mostly a high power rifle shooter. I also have a few 22 rifles. But the little gun I have that I probably like to shoot the most is my Marlin 917V in 17 HMR. I can not shoot 50 rounds of Center Fire ammunition for $12.00 -$14.00 from Walmart. Great to Shoot Crows, Gofers, and target shoot with it. 2500 ft. per second and very accurate at 100 yards. It will literally stack the bullets on each other. Sub MOA Groups from the bag at 100. So for the money you can have a lot of fun with the rim fires. And as stated they are inexpensive to shoot and great for teaching a youngster or new shooter.

My 10 year old son and I have been going through two bulk packs a month for the past few months. That is along with a few packs of CCI mini-mags. We have a range setup at some land I own. Makes it so that the money is going into ammo and not range fees.

Today we took out 2 Savage Mark IIs, a Springfield Model 120 I just picked up and the S&W M&P 15-22. Also took out the Mosin and ran a 20 pack through it.

I go through 500 rounds of 22LR a week at least.

I'm retired and single so I do whatever I want when I want...

I have a 50 yd. Range in my back yard and like to shoot every day.
The Temps. have been in the high 90s for awhile now, so I wait 'til the sun is setting and the wind is calm.
I'm too lazy to shoot in the early morning.
I fire 120 to 240 rounds a session, depending on how much I'm sweating.

I received an order of 2000 rounds of CCI Green Tag on 5-16-11. I have 160 left.

I have three Shoe-boxes full of CCI Sub-sonic, maybe 6-7 thousand rounds. It's less than a year old.

I don't have any of the guns I had in 1986.

Ammo went up and pretty much stay'd up since 2008, a box of 7.62x39 is $41
a box of 50 9mm is $63, $38 for a box of 12gage and the .22longrifle is $4-$5 a box for 50 rounds, can buy factory CCI blemished target aka. seconds in box of 200 for $19
The $19 brick of blammo .22 ammo is gone the $19 box of 50 .44mag is also gone.
Kids love to shoot and still buy ammo and shoot budget permitting, even get to pop off the ole 1860 .44cap and ball once in awhile.

most fired ammo is .22Lr, .22mag, 9mm and 20ga and 12ga (2.3/4") #4 shot and field shot

in 1994 I used to have a shop forman that's get all wound up from upper management meddling in shop, he'd get very agitated, as I was a gun the month type I'd get selected to drive hime in the company truck to the gun shop where he'd buy 2-3 bricks of .22's and 3-4 boxes of .44mag, I was free to bring a .22 or my own stuff, then on the clock go to the city dump and blow the hell outta stuff......only in the Arctic can you create your own reality was those times I got to shoot a Highstandard police bullpup shotgun! the Calico110 and the Tek 22 and all manner of semiauto rimfires Grendel P30 hand gun and the AMT automagII and the S&W 629 and the Colt Annaconda.44mag and ruger .44carbine, soviet SVT40 and 30-06 FN49 and the .308 MAS49/56, Norinco AK's with 75round drums, Russian SKS, ChineseSKS, M16A1 and the Thompson M1 and the German MP40(gun shop guy had a class III dealers ticket) and with some sweet talk he'd somtimes let ya hose off a few rounds

Every time we go out shooting! I have a box of 50, CCI blazers that are from the early 1980's maybe '70's. Fired a couple. They were purchase by my Dad. He past away in 1996. Price is written in pen on the box. He got raped!

I go to the range at least once every couple weeks. I'm still shooting handgun bullets I casted from the late 80s but am just about out (no more 5 gallon buckets of bullets).

almost every weekend 22lr is the most common thing i shoot. taking the ruger 22/45 pink 10/22 and the garand out saturday.
