.17 HMR ?
No. Will not chamber, if it did would be dangerous and inaccurate. It is basically a .22 Magnum (which is larger than a .22LR in diameter) but necked to a .17 bullet. Also a LOT longer. There have been issues with semi auto .17 HMRs, leading to a big recall from Remington. Also not .17 M2, nor .17 Aguila.
There are dozens- Nay- HUNDREDS of different .22 LR rounds available, ranging from subsonic SHHHHH quiet to hypervel, to REALLY pricey match ammo. For ordinary ammo, CCI makes some of the most consistent ammo I have seen. If I am doing 100 meter serious target work with a bull barreled bolt gun, then I am burning Wolf, Lapua, or Nobel Match ammo (a a price that will make you weep)
