Since December of 2012 until now, I have went to multiple stores about once a month and have never once seen a single round of .22, ever. This is in Mid-Michigan.
Basically been the same way for me N.E. of Houston. Have 3 super wal marts within 15-20 minutes of my home and really can't remember when I last saw 22 ammo in any of them. Know they receive the ammo, but gone from shelves quickly.

Got lucky with Midway last Friday about 6 A.M., when I noticed they had Norma 22 TAC in stock for $59 a brick of 500. This particular ammo shoots well in my most accurate 22 rifle. UPS dropped off my Norma today, so I'm OK for awhile.

Read something in one of the NSSF news blasts that Norma will have 5 million rounds of that TAC-22 made by this time next year. They began producing it in January...

I stopped by our Cabelas last Monday about 9:30am and walked out with a couple bricks of Blazers. I had been to my Dr.'s office. I'd made an 8:30am appointment so I could swing by Cabela's on the way home.
I don't make 40+ mile round trips on a 'chance' to pick up .22 ammo.
It had been a long time since I'd seen any .22 ammo for sale (other than the local ripoff dealers who mark up 50 round boxes of Federal Eagle to $6.00-$8.00 per box! Cabela's has a one box per customer limit but a guy I'd been talking to about reloading grabbed one on the way out for me. Cool! Priced at $27.99/brick (plus tax)
Time to go shoot some rimfires!

Bob

Default And here's why the .22 ammo is MIA...

Congrats Bob! I also Scored at a Gun Show on Sunday, not as much as you, but I bought other calibers. Here's my Rimfire Ammo from Sunday, except for what I got for another friend who could not make it. imageuploadedbyfirearms-talk1397015136.671850.jpg

So it is coming Back,...but you have to "Hunt" for it at reasonable prices.

And they are willing to part with 50 cartridges for $25 on their website. So nice of them...

The Heck with them! The Dealers at Gun shows know the Game is UP! they can't inflate the prices anymore because people aren't buying. That is why the prices are dropping again.
I could have bought the Federal Auto-Match that we like on Sunday, but not for $40 a Brick!!
Some vendors still wanted $25 & $28 for the small Brick of Remington Golden Bullets. One guy had it for $22,..so i waited until less then an hr. before show close and got it for $20. still a bit high, before the "shortage," Which(again) I feel is partly the fault of gougers and partly our own fault for playing into it, that 225 Pack was $14.99...
