Default Henry Repeating Arms Serial Numbers

I just made a traffic stop on a known drug dealer and found a Henry Repeating Arms 22 cal lever action behind the seat. No big deal I know but the guy is a convicted felon and it appears the serial numbers have been ground off and painted over.
My question is " Is the serial number located behind the behind the trigger guard on the bottom. It's late and there is no one to call at this time and I need to know if there is going to be an additional charge or if I'm looking in the wrong location.

I attached a photo of where the grinding and painting were if that helps.

Thanks for the help.

lol you confiscated his .22 cal? What kind of drug dealer drives around with that? That should be where the serial numbers were at one point.

Yes, I did confiscate the rifle since the subject has had numerous involvements with stolen property. With the serial numbers gone confirms that he got this one hot as well. Also .22 cal still can be deadly in the right hands and this good ol' boy Meth pusher knows how to shoot. I'm a gun nut by far and believe in the 2nd more than anything but I'll be damned if I'm gonna let this SOB get a line of sight on me with any type of firearm.

Thanks for the quick reply.
