I've been trying to identify an older .22 rimfire I used to hunt with when I was kid. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures, so I'll have to go by memory. We believe the gun is an older Remington. It is bolt action, with a five or six round box magazine. The stock is solid walnut with no engraving or carving of any kind. The rear of the bolt is somewhat cone shaped, but stepped gradually down, not smooth. The safety is a small thumb lever located behind the bolt on the right side. It slides forward and backward to engage or disengage the safety. The gun is at least sixty years old, so I'm having a hard time finding out what it is. Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! |

My quess with what you give us is it is a Model 510, 511, and or a 512 These all were made in the era you speak of and are fine rifles.

Maybe the JC Higgins (name right?) better known as sold by Sears back then. They were very common in those days and ordered right out of the catalog. They were priced so that 'bout anyone could buy one, but well built in the US. __________________ From C3Shooter:

i looked at those, and they are VERY close to the rifle, but not exactly the same. The JC Higgins rifles don't look similar. The only thing I could find different is that the handle on the bolt doesn't look the same. The ball on the end is almost perfectly spherical with gnurrling around the diameter. The safety is in the exact same position as the 510. | |

About 8 years old. It is a BSA 6-18x40mm
Hard to believe that rifle is 50+ years old and I am the 4th owner of that rifle. I also have a 513T. | |
