I have 2 daughters age 10 and 11. They did their list for Christmas and at the top of both of their list were new guns. I'm so proud of them. I bought the guns that they wanted and I figured I would go shoot them to sight them in before they got wrapped up for Christmas. When I started shooting at the range, both guns began to double feed. I would fire 1 to 2 shots then as the bolt went forward for the next shot, it would strip 2 rounds and then I would have to clear them. The strange part is that both would do the same thing. The guns are a Marlin 795 and a S&W MP.22. Yea my girls have good taste. The ammo I was using was the Federal bulk pack. I've never had any issues with this ammo on my other .22. Before going to the range, I cleaned both guns and used the magazine that came with them. I haven't had the chance to buy any new mags yet. Now I only had time to fire 3 mags through each one. I have to say the the final magazine did not have as many jams as the first mag did. Do you guys have any ideas as to what might be happening?

On the M&P 15-22 the only jam we had was with Velocitor which is very hot. It felt like the recoil spring was not strong enough for the Velocitor. I have not tried Federal bulk but it ate American Eagle 38 grn HP, Aguila 38 grn HP, CCI Mini Mag 36 grn HP and some Winchester 36 grn HP that would not run in my 10-22's. The Fed bulk is 36 grn HP. With both rifles having the same problem it seems like the ammo is the possible culprit. The Mini Mags are the only 36 grn HP that my 10-22's will run reliably.

Hey bud, thanks for the reply. I'll try some different ammo and see if that helps. The Federal was all I had at the time. I was wondering if it was just operator error.

I have a son-in-law that has a marlin 796 also. He bought a bulk box of federal champion junk and had issue also. I clean the chamber and feed ramp area well along with the mags insides and chamge him over to some cci blaser i had. it like that and stopped any problems but it also shoots some new pmc sidewinder well.

Only sw15-22 i have seen was shooting some agula HV ammo and it also shot great. Fairly accurate and the kid shoot up 500 rounds of that stuff

i own a 795 and in the manual it says to use only hp rounds. thunderbolts will jam and dirty the rifle considerably with only 200 or so rounds down range. in the manual it says cci mini mags work best. but anything hp and NOT thunderbolts. i hope this was any help

Did you clean 'em before shooting??

Marlin uses a light packing grease that must be cleaned out before use.
I'd bet on the other company doing the same thing...

Hey guys, thanks for the help. Let me update you on whats happened so far. I broke down both guns again and completely cleaned them. I took your advice and tried the CCI minimags. Now the S&W had a couple of jams on the first magazine then no more problems. As far as the Marlin 795, it continued to have problems. Out of every ten round magazine, it would double feed 2-3 times and have at least 2 failure to fire. So at this point I know somethings wrong with the gun . So I break it down and notice that the feed ramp has a small burr at the top edge and the bolt carrier( I guess thats what it's called) is not very smooth. So I get the dremmel tool and polish the feed ramp, the bolt carrier and everything it touches. Cleaned it up oiled it and now it fires everything I put into into without any problems. I am by no means anything close to a gun smith but I thought I'd give polishing everything a try and am glad it worked. Here is a pic of what my daughter did at 25 yards with their new toys.

Some .22s should not shoot CCI Stingers.
Check the user manual if yours are among them.
