Hello,
First time here.
I have a Stevens model 44 drop block .22 ...serial # Q 491... it is my understanding that it is almost possible to date a Stevens from the serial #'s. do to poor or non existant records kept by Stevens.
If this is true, is there any other way to date the rifle?

You might do some research and date it to a given decade but I doubt you'd get much closer. The engraving is not original to the gun and it had the manufactures info obliterated to give a clean area to engrave on.
