CZ 453 Varmint 17 HMR
I'm interested in getting this rifle. While I have not read anything bad about it, info seems somewhat limited, compared to say the 455. Nothing came up in a search of this forum. I understand this is a more expensive model, and also CZ's website states that they are discontinuing it for '13.

Anyone own/shoot it, and have any comments? Thanks

Jeff at seems to like it...

You want enough info to read for a month? Go to Rimfire Central forum and go to the CZ section.

That being said, I almost bout the 453 Varmint in 22lr, but I wasn't crazy about the set trigger. Seemed really cheaply made to me. I ended up buying the 455 Varmint and installing a YoDave trigger kit and I live that gun. I can easily put 5 shots in a dime at 50 yards.

Olympus, could you describe in more detail how you didn't like it? What made it seem cheaply made? For the little I have read about it, it sounds like an awesome trigger. Anyway, going to RC right now. Thanks.

Alright, after reading about them, and today searching for one, seems like CZ is discontinuing them for next year, and they are already gone from the market........sigh.......everything I want is either not made, or impossible to find.

So, new question. How about some recommendations for a 17 HMR heavy barrel bolt action costing no more than $600? Preferably CZ, but not Savage (already have one), or Marlin. (Sorry BigShrek)

Does 5 shots in an inch from a "shaky bench" @ 50 yds with this gun wearing a 10X scope seem appropriate to you guys?

If you pass around what your smok'in! I love the option of the sngle set on my 527, can't say anything pro or con about the 453. I do have a Marlin 917v. It is a good rifle. I also have a Browning A-bolt Gold medalion that nothing in either .17HMR or .22WMR comes close to. Made for less then 2 years in the early '90's. Bought it new. $475.00. Appraised at $895.00. I'd sell if you want it! Trigger is outstanding. ;)

Thanks for the offer. But that's a little too rich for my blood......

The actual trigger was very small and thin and felt floppy in the action. It was also gritty and didn't seem to "engage" to the set function smoothly.

I'd recommend the 455 Varmint. You can interchange the barrels from .17 to 22lr to 22 Mag. Get a YoDave trigger kit on eBay and you'll have a great shooting gun.
