I don't shoot yotes. But in those instances, you don't have a choice. It's the only humane thing to do.
+100

there's a REAL man for ya........"hey, douchebag #2, watch me shoot that coyote with my .22. i bet i can hit him while he is running and we're both 100+ yds away." what dickholes! (AIN'T A HEADSHOT POSSIBLE WITH A .22 @ THIS DISTANCE, IT'S LUCK THAT ONE CAN EVEN HIT THE THING, RUNNING, WITH A .22 THAT FAR OUT!)

I once shot a rabid fox 8 times in the head from point blank range and it didn't die. I'm talking about walking around the corner of my house and having a rabid fox standing right there waiting for me. I had a Marlin 60 with me. I stuck the barrel right to it's head maybe 2" away. I shot 10 times but probably 2 shots missed because it turned its head. So a .22 won't always do the job on a canine.

Then there was the feral dog I shot with a SKS. I hit it in the head. In fact I blew half its head off. And it got up and took off running. I had shot the front half of it's head off because I shot at it from the front and I missed it's brain by maybe an inch at 40 yards or so. I hunted that dog for 8 hours before I found it again and shot it in the brain with a .22. It died on the spot. So sometimes a large caliber round isn't enough. I never dreamed I would miss that dog's brain. I still have nightmares about that poor creature. It makes me physically ill just to think of it. I rarely ever mention it because I hate it beyond belief.

I shot another dog with a shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot. I had to shoot it again because it didn't die either and I hit it solid. It was part pit bull so that might have had something to do with it.

When you pull that trigger nothing is certain. Go figure. I've shot several feral dogs in my life and I've only had to shoot about 2 or 3 more than once and that was because they just didn't die easily. I had hit them in hard but they just didn't die until I shot them again.

If you have a good shot and you know you can hit your target a .22 will kill a 'yote. But that doesn't mean it always will. Even the best shooters will miss once in a while especially when you're talking about hitting a brain stem that's actually pretty small. There's no such thing as always when it comes to varmint control. I've shot lots of animals for one reason or another in my time and I have only missed a very few and I'm talking missing the brain even when I hit the animal. But I certainly have missed a few and those still haunt me. Now please excuse me while I go throw up because I thought of that poor dog again. I hate missing. I really do. I hate having to shoot any animal twice. I've never let an animal get away once I had shot it though. Even if it took me all day I hunted it until I found it and finished the job. That's only happened once and I already told you about it.

I use my marlin 882 22 mag w 40 jhp winchesters all the time for yotes out to bout 125 yards. Past that its gonna be my mini 14 w 55 grain silvertips or my tc venture varmint 22/250. With either one of them they dnt go to far-usually straight down. I use my mossberg 800b 243 w handloaded 75 grain sierra boattail hps occassionally but im bout out of them and cant seem to find the bullets anymore though.

Record a baby crying...brings 'em in FAST!!

My wifey won't let me take the 4-month-old boys hunting yet...its a shame, they'd get me a BUNCHA targets fast

"You can't use your sons as BAIT!!" she sez...
"OK, fine...can I at least record 'em crying??"
"Well...Ok...."

You guys do realize that I'm kidding about taking a pair of 4-month-old babies hunting, right?
Gotta wait until they're at least three years old
