Ok, OK, here are "before" pictures of the receiver. It is really rough. I didn't take "before" pictures of the wood, it was pretty rough too. I haven't finished with it yet. I tried one of those "touch-up" pens for scopes, etc, but it looks like crap on the receiver. I don't want to totally strip it down because I don't think that I can replicate the shaded gold coloring in the engraving. I got it cheap and it is a Colt. It is a pre-serial number model. I just need to find a saddle ring for it. I found one place, but they want $30 + for the ring assembly and shipping. Numrich doesn't have one, I already checked. :(

Thanks for the pics. It doesn't matter what shape it's in, it's a diamond.

Some questions:
What about stripping the blue and then cold bluing it? I'm sure the gold can be reapplied somehow.
Are you refinishing the stock?

Great project. I love cleaning up old guns.

Yes, the receiver is aluminium, that's probably why it scratched up so badly.

Yes, my dad did the stock and it came out beautifully. He was able to get out almost all of the dents, gave it a light sanding and some satin polyurethane. The walnut has some great graining. It looks great. Will post pics when it is together.
