Anybody ever change out a regular barrel for the ruger 10/22 with a bull barrel? Was it something you would need gunsmithing tools to do-like a centerfire-or is it relatively easy to do like using a t/c encore? I am thinking about getting my first 10/22 but don't like using thin barrels on my guns.

All you need is an allen wrench, 3 minutes, and a stock designed for heavy barrel. That is to allow clearance but you CAN redo factory wooden stocks by hogging the barrel channel out. The best of cheap stocks are the Hogue rubber overmolded.

Best bet would be to buy a cheaper more accurate rifle to begin with.

Cheaper. Yes,there are lower priced guns out there. But as far as being more accurate,I haven't seen any other brand of semi-auto 22lr that is anymore accurate out of the box and cost less than a 10/22,or one that has anywhere close to the aftermarket accessories or following of the 10/22.

And mu93ka,it would be cheaper for you if you just bought a 10/22T that comes from the factory with a bull barrel. Mine will shoot 1/2" groups at 75yrds with match grade ammo,not bad for a box stock 10/22T.
They come in blue and stainless,I have a blued one.
