The Best Small Game Round

I was thinking of somewhere in the future bying a New Rifle for Squrriels and Rabbits, Occasionally a Coyote, or Armadilo or other pest.

What round do you think would be the best for all of these circumstances?

.17HMR
.17 MAch 2
.22Long
.22LR
.22WMR

Ranges- 50Yds to 150Yds
(Armadilos and Coyotes < 100YDS)

If you are suggesting shooting a coyote with a 22 lr, that ain't my kinda fun Stranger

I can't vote for 2 so here are the best 2 imo. The .17HMR and the .22WMR will serve you best from the choices you have listed. The .17HM2 or Mach2 will reach out to those distances but I doubt its effectiveness against coyotes. Same with .22lr (at longer ranges anyway).

Poll

The .22lr will do what you want except for the coyote. For that I would suggest a .22-250 which will reach to 300 yards. I don't have that much experience with the .22mag to comment but I would suspect it might be good to 150 yards but I'd question it's drop dead ability at that range. However the .22lr can stop coyote at ranges of 50 yards or less. So it all depends on the range your looking to take a coyote. Also a .22mag would be a bit much for a squirrel or rabbit. I think the best round would be the .22lr.

A 22LR will handle all the game you mentioned inside 50 yards. If you plan on taking shots at a coyote at 100 you're going to need the 22 mag at least and a little more wouldn't hurt.

I voted 22lr. I have shot many pests with it and never not killed one. Big Plus because the price is right.

Of those you listed I went with 17HMR because of the distance -
Anything under 50yds I's say the humble 22LR except the coyote critter-

how bout good ol fashion .223?

might consider an ar15 in 223/5.56 with a cmmg conversion to 22lr or with a dedicated 22lr upper to go with the centerfire then your really versitile.

Any Marlin chambered for .22 Magnum, using 50-grain Federal Game-Shok ammo
will drop everything on that list out to at least 150 yards.

I've got Marlin 25MN scope set at 125, due to my favorite KZ being 100-150 yards.
Centerpoint 4-16x40 gives you that nice clear view to make headshots.
