best bang for the buck ammo
 

hello all, I am new to guns and new to this forum, I think I am going to get a ruger 10/22 and possibly a .22 cal revolver. What is the cheapest ammo that will work in the 10/22 that may also work in the revolver ? Thanks for any advice and help.

I get my .22LR plinking ammo at Walmart. ~$20 for 550 rds.

Sounds like the stuff that I buy. I buy Federal bulk .22 target ammo in a red box. My .22 pistol likes it pretty well. An occasional jam but not enough to make me buy more expensive plinking/target ammo. :)

thanks. when I get the ruger 10 22 at my walmart I willl be buying 3 more 10 round mags and a couple boxxes of ammo and a case for the gun. Later on I will be getting a new stock and possibly some upgrades, what are the recomended upgrades for it? thanks again.

I can't help you there. My .22 is a pistol.

thanks any way, any body else have any ideas? I think I may just leave the ruger stock and get a .22 tactical rifle for $295 later on the ruger is only $217.

The 10/22 is a great rifle right out of the box. I don't think there are any "recommended" upgrades per se. I guess it just depends on what you like and what purpose you bought the rifle for to begin with. There are a million aftermarket goodies that you can get for the 10/22 - it's one of the most accessorized and customizable firearms out there. It comes down to "whatever floats yer boat".

I have had the best luck with Winchester 555 bulk packs from Walmart. They group well and feed in all my semi-autos. They have a large cavity hollow point and are great on squirrels. Federal bulk packs are pretty good too. CCI mini mags are great, but pricey. Stay away from all Remington rimfire ammo.

You're about to open up a whole can of worms when it comes to mods for the 10/22. There is almost nothing you can't do to it, just depends what you want...

For semi autos I like federal auto match.
