Might mean that you can get a dedicated .22LR upper and pin it to your .223/5.56 lower, along with several other different dedicated uppers of various calibers if you choose.
You can, with 22 uppers made specifically to match standard lowers. They do however cost each close to a whole MP15-22. Nothing beats it's value.

Jimski,

All boils down to personal preference and also what style 22 you think you want. I like all styles myself.
But my next one will no doubt be a S&W Model 15-22. I have friends that have them and I have shot them several times. And they are also very accurate and just flat a great little weapon. And as stated if you have 223/5.56 ARs they are also a great training weapon.

Thanks for all the replies. The only two legitamate reasons that I can see for getting an AR style .22 is the large capacity magazine and it just looks cool. So untill the zombie apocalypse happens, I'll just stick with my wood and metal Savage rifles and save my money for ammo.

The prices on the Mossbergs are getting lower and lower because they are not selling. The Smiths are selling and in my opinion are the best of of the bunch in the AR style.

The Mossbergs were probably marked up to cater to the no one else has one crowd. After all, if it costs more it has to be better. I have yet to see a S&W AR 22 anywhere but the store.

An AR .22 pistol is a sure sell if it has a 6" barrel and a real muzzle thread. Chiappa and GSG have not been successful with their compromise replicas.

The AR-15 rifle is now the most popular firearm in the Nation. I expect you will see about every caliber chambered in these arms over time. It makes no difference if you like the AR platform or not. The thing I like about these rifles, they are bringing in new younger shooters everyday.

Out here I've often seen the S&W at the range. Don't remember seeing a Mossberg tactical 22 other than in the LGS. As far as my Colt, I've only seen one other at the range. I bet the M&P15-22 outsells the others combined!
