Default Anyone know this gun?

My father bought a .22 single shot bolt action rifle today and we were interesting to learn more about it. After a few hour looking around on the internet I could find nothing that matches it. So in hopes of learning what exactly it is I am posting it here.

Remington single shot .22 rifle
Bolt action
Octagon barrel
Rear adjustable sight
Safety on back of bolt

On the barrel:
top just in front of bolt, Remington trade mark
left just in front of bolt, .22 SHORT or LONG
top just in front of rear sight, REMINGTON ARMS - UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO.
Under barrel just in front of stock, J 284060

What is throwing me off is the octagon barrel, at first I thought it was a 510 or a 44 but I cannot find one with a octagon barrel.

I have some pictures but cannot upload them to my image shack account right now as I forgot my password and am having it retrieved for me. I will try and post some images later.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
