Default another 10/22 issue

I just bought a Ruger 10/22 for my son for Christmas and was disassembling it for cleaning. When I removed the barrel from the stock I noticed the bolt stop pin was missing. I spent 20 minutes scouring the area and could not find the pin which leaves me to believe it was never installed. I have sent an email off to Ruger about the issue, but wonder if anyone has run into a similar situation or is my experience unique?

Haven't shot mine but about ten times and it locked up on me twice...Had to eject the bullet before it would fire....But I will keep watch and take a look at mine and see if anything is wrong....WhiteWolf

Please define "bolt stop pin". There are two cross pins in the Ruger 10/22 receiver that may fall out when the action is removed from the stock. The recoil pin, and the trigger assembly retaining pin. Neither one of these is a tight fit in the stock 10/22 receiver. If your factory recoil pin has disappeared, replace it with a 10/22 recoil buffer like this--------

He's probably talking about the "bolt stop" pin...I gotta get me a sleeve to go on mine..

RamRod,
What's a good brand scope to put on the 10/22???? My gunshop suggested the BSA scope for 22's....WhiteWolf

Yeah...I figured the rear receiver pin was what you were talking about. Never used that term but I guess it's accurate. I'd go ahead and get the bolt buffer style myself...those won't walk out on you or disappear when you remove the action from the stock. As for scopes on the 10/22, I have a BSA on one of mine, and a Simmons on the other. Both are very good IMO for the 22lr and sihouette shooting. You may also give a look at the CenterPoint Optics scopes now on the market. Made right here in the good 'ol USA and gaining excellent reviews. I hear the optics coatings are very good as well. Remember.....it is a 22lr, and you should avoid over-scoping the rifle for the round...no need with a 22lr.

well, the pin arrived yesterday and I am pretty sure it never installed since I had to tap it in with a hammer to seat it properly. later this morning it is off the Lovell Canyon for some plinking.
