I can get 22LR somewhat easily. It's 22 Mag and 17 HMR thats harder to find around here...I traded a guy 22 LR for some on Rimfire Central today.

I was talking to one of the ammo reps that comes into our LGS. He says .22 shortage will be over in the spring. Additional production is coming on line.

Hope he is right. I have pretty much given up shooting .22 until it is easy to find again and normally priced.

He works for Precision Cartridge. They are primarily a re-loader, but they also have to source .22 for their customers. so he is in a position to know that kinda stuff....hopefully.....

I do not go looking for ammo but I am not scared to open my wallet when I find ammo. Here in the past couple months I have bought about 50 lb of 22LR ammo at pre-shortage prices. I know I got 15 boxes of federal auto match for $16 each. You have to have at least $200 in your wallet for ammo when you find it at a good price. I got the auto match from a local FFL who was trying to scalp online and at gun shows. He knew who to call when he needed money to make another order. You have to order at least 5 cases of ammo to get a good wholesale price and cut out the distributors who have no inventory. They are just taking advantages of businesses who are short on cash. I don't know the totals on the rest of my ammo. All the rest came 2 or 3 boxes at a time.

I got scalped on 100 rounds of super X ammo. There is no other ammo that knocks down small game like 40 gr solid superX at 1,300 fps. The superX bullet stays together on anything from 450 lb steers to squirrels you have to shoot through a limb to kill. There is a big difference in the superx in paper boxes and the superx in the 100 round plastic box.

I assume the plastic box stuff is better?

Yes, the bullet is much better made and it is higher velocity. The solid superX in the plastic box has a lead core made like a hollow point so it has a durable copper nose.

You must have been looking thru some of the extra states Obama listed.

If you are just walking over to the sporting goods department at walmart while your wife is loading up groceries at 2 in the afternoon, then no, you won't have any success.
You can find 22lr online; if the dealer is out, get on their waiting list, like at Midway. Unless you live in Cook county, I think most companies will ship ammo to your doorstep. I find plenty at auctions and estate sales.
