Ammo at Walmart
What's the story with buying ammo at Walmart? First time buying ammo since I got my 10/22 last month and I got a Federal bulk pack and some CCI. After ringing each in, the lady behind the counter asked me if they were for a handgun. I told her no both times and then wondered what the hell it mattered. I asked her about it and she couldn't explain other than she was required to enter an answer to the question.
Anyone know if this is a Walmart or state (IN) issue? The laws here in IN are so relaxed, I can't imagine it being that. It just caught me off guard and made me wonder if anyone here knew what it was about.

You have to be 21 to buy handgun ammo but only 18 to buy rifle ammo.

Federal reg I believe, any round that is used in both handguns and longarms they have to ask. If for a handgun you must be 21 to purchase...18 for a rifle.

That makes sense. Now, considering I'm 44 years old, it was a mute point anyway... :-)

Well, if it's like our Wal Mart, they have a rather stupid policy. If it's rifle or shotgun ammo, you can take it with you and check out at any check out counter in the store. If it's handgun ammo, you have to check out and pay for it at the sporting goods counter. Don't ask me why. And some clerks enforce it. Other's don't.

I'd rather my own son see me die on my feet as a free man, than watch him go, broken, into slavery.

Just a rule of thumb I go by (went by before I turned 21 anyway) anytime they ask, I always replied that it was for a long gun.

The Walmarts in Michigan ask the same question.
The clerk has no idea why.
Nobody at Walmart knows either.
Just say No to drugs, booze, and queers.

Answer handgun in California and you need to show ID, and soon unless there is devine intervention, provide all sorts of data that the store will be required to keep and show if requested by nosey lawmen.
