Accuracy expectations with scoped 10/22

Hello everyone,

I've had this 10/22 for close to 20 years and have only occasionally shot it. Last year I put a Bushnell scope and then last week spent some time sighting it in. The problem is that I don't know what expectations I should have. (As you can see I don't shoot very much...)

Here's a photo of one of my better groupings from a (to me...) longer distance of 200 feet. There was a little breeze on this day - enough to blow the target around and I was using Remington "golden" bullets. I was seated at a table resting the 10/22 on some sandbags.

Any comments or opinions would be valued. Also any recommendations on the best ammo or upgrades (most bang for the buck...) would be great.

Most .22 competitions are held at 50 yards. The bullet becomes too unpredictable beyond that. The best shooters can group inside of a quarter at that distance. Your grouping is a great start! good job.

The ammo choice will depend on what barrel you have. The fastest CCI stinger is not always the most accurate. Get some different, low quantity types of higher end ammo and get on a stable bench at 50 yards. Find what your barrel likes and buy more :)

I have a red dot on my tactical 10/22 and I can hit eggs at 100yards the 10/22 has 2 b the best 22 rifle action made I love it I have a 1in group at 60yards all day good optics will make the diff but the rifle is just as good...

Also try diff ammo I have shot 8 diff rounds but I found the 22 federal 2 b the most accurate cheap round other than ballistic hunting rounds but the federal are the best I think....

Try differnt ammo is right but give each change of ammo atleast 10 shoots before desideing how well it shoots. You should have better accuracy from a real match grade ammo but once in a while a barrel will like something like cci mini-mags or green or blaser. Many find wold or sk ammo is very accurate for the money also.

Thats not a bad group for the run of the mill 10/22. Some bolt rifles and custom 10/22 can shoot under 3/8" at 50 yards and 1" at 100 yards with good lower cost match ammo too and 100 yard is very doable and guy ring gongs at 225 to 300 regularly with under 1100 standard velocity ammo. You may find with the ammo your rifle likes best it may cut group size by a 1/3rd. But drop to 25 yards till you find your best ammo for your rifle. Then go longer. Enjoy

R3 do you mean federal what 711B for cheap ammo. $3.86 bucks a box

You should be able to get nickle sized groups at 50 yards with a stock 10/22. Maybe better.

as others suggested, try out different ammo types and brands. every rifle is different and accuracy can vary from one ammo to another.

your group size isn't bad, not great, but not bad. more time spent shooting will help your groups also. practice, practice and paractice some more. that's the great thing about a 22 rimfire is the cheapness of shooting them. the more you shoot, the better you will get.

the 10/22 that i just got finished mounting a scope on for a friend, after i got it sighted in, will easily do a 1" group at 50 yrds with just cheap Remington bulk ammo. and the scope is just a cheap Simmons 3-9x40 that i picked up at WalMart.

10/22's may once in a while shoot a tight groups but at 50 yards. Don't expect a repeatable dime or nickel sized groups. If you do run out and buy a loto ticket. A marlin 60 stands a much better chance than a ruger. But heck guess a great 10/22 can slip thru once in a great while. Most are turds stock.
