I've seen this same report posted on several different forums but never anything independently confirming the statements made. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Pretty scary what the guy from Montana in the comments said. Only two places in the US make smokeless powder. I really hope this isn't true, can anyone confirm what the guy from Montana in the comments section said?

I went ahead and made a new thread with my findings:

I feel dumb. I just got paid and didn't pay attention to prices when I bought 3 50 round boxes of lightning .22 for $8 a piece!

Went to a new branch of a large gun chain here in Florida called "Shoot Straight"
They had tons of 22lr I think it was 60 bucks a brick large supply. Shelf full of 00 12 ga at a dollar a round and pallets of rifle ammunition in the large cans. Behind counters they have lots of hand gun loads. I just went in to check out the new range and bought 12 ga rounds. They have it but prices are no where near Walmarts. Will try Walmart at end of week if I get some time since I have not been in a few days.

I went to a NWTF banquet last weekend. A local shop donated 2 boxes of .223 (40 rounds total) and 2 boxes of 22's (100 rounds total) for the silent auction and they went for $85.00.

Checked cheaper than dirt, no kidding, 500 round brick was going for $150..... couldn't believe it. Luckily I have a pretty good stock of .22 so I should be ok for a while.... but damn, these prices are rediculous.... and reloading supplies are almost impossible to find too, I reload all my own ammo and will just have to be careful how much I shoot so I can conserve my supplies til I am able to get more..... This is all crap.....

For the past 6 weeks, I've been helping folks in the "Ammo Finds" thread in the Rimfire forum at heads ups like other members where to get ammo.

I've been able to acquire 7000 rounds of .22 LR over that period - while providing links. My average when broken down is in about the 9-10 cents per round range after shipping.

What the trick?

Keep about 13-14 windows open all day and all night on the browser to different vendors. And especially Sunday night into Monday morning - get ready to jump. Last week on Sunday night, I predicted a Monday flush. Sure enough starting Monday morning - about 6 vendors added 2-3 affordable each - and a bunch of us keep each other alerted and jumped on them same thing happened just the past Monday:

CCI in bulk containers and in 100 ct boxes.
Federal in bulk containers
Eley and Wolf in 50 ct boxes

Here's a list of the best vendors for me so far for you folks: (Aquila) (Federal) (Eley Sport/Target/Club) (Eley Match) (Wolf Match) (CCI and Eagle) (Aquila and Federal)

9mmammo, CheaperThanDirt, and BulkAmmo have gone "armslist" at this point. Don't bother anymore...
