.22LR vs Maverick 88

So in the next few days my birthday is coming up. For my birthday im gonna probably get either a Mossberg half pint plinkster .22LR or a mossberg maverick 88. To be honest i dont know which one to get both are around the same price and this is going to be first REAl firearm. Any opinions??

Hi there and welcome to FTF! Why don't you stop by the introductions forum and let us know about you.

So, how old will you be?

Between the two, I'd get the maverick. The plinkster is a pretty sorry job of a .22.

If you want a good .22lr I would suggest a marlin 60, ruger 10/22, or my favorite, a remington 597.

Im going to be turning 16 and I myself thought the maverick would be the better choice, but the thing is if i were to get a rifle it would definitely be a bolt action any reccomendations for those?

Think of what the firearm is to be used for.
Another thing to think about, attending a firearms training or safety course. A hunting course is a good place to start with.

I like Marlin firearms and Savage for their bolt actions.

Have you taken any safety courses? Who is teaching you to shoot?

Shooting can be dangerous and is a huge responsibility, don't take it lightly. Get the training you deserve!

I'm not saying you are taking it lightly, just a friendly encouragement. :)

I'll definitely look into the classes, thanks for the help guys.

Give a trained shooter a lever action .22, and a beginner an Anshutz. Put them on the range at same targets.
I bet the trained shooter will shoot more accurately.
Good luck.
