Default 22LR Vs FAC air

Hi, I am relatively new to shooting and new to this forum. I am in the process of applying for a FAC. In the meantime I would like peoples views on the 22lr and FAC air rifles.
I have heard stories about merits of both.

I intend to shoot rats, squirrels and pigeons and the occasional rabbit. I have a number of questions before I spend my hard earned cash:

What is the effective range of a 12ft/lb rifle for clean kills of the above quarry.

Also, would a .177 be better than .22 as it has higher velocity?

How much advanctage do you get from FAC air rifle?

Are the .22LR as quiet as air rifles when silenced?

Thanks in advance

For the benefit of the American simpletons...What the heck is a FAC? I presume it is some sort of pellet rifle. The fact that you have to have a permit for a pellet rifle is simply dumfounding to me. You poor bastages stuck in the formerly merry old England. Your rights have been so stripped that you are now forced to ask for a permit for a freaking pellet gun? OMG!!!

Wake up America. This is where we are headed.

Thanks Jo. FAC, what a stupid concept. A government that does not trust its own citizens, is itself not trustworthy.

A .22 LR with a good suppressor is quieter than a high energy air rifle. But thye also make suppressed air rifles, which are quieter- but you reach a point where either is quiet enough.

For the air rifle, go for .22. The .177 may be faster, but penetration is minimal due to very light bullet.

Accuracy? Air rifles may be more accurate, but either will be "minute of varmint"

Range? I drop squirrels at a measured 45 yard distance with a 5mm Sheridan air rifle. 22 LR can reach about 100 yds IF you shoot that well. Head shots.

For the rest of you mugs, do NOT harrass the man because he lives in a place with restrictive laws- give thanks that it is not you.

Oh, I did not intend to harass him at all. I pity the man that has to live under such tyranny. I will use his plight to illustrate the fight we have before us.

It's a good thing England didn't get that stupid with gun laws before Hitler started knocking on their door...I'm still amazed the Gov't has forgotten already what a dedicated nutjob can do.

But it's ok...sooner or later another will turn up to remind them. Those kind of leaders tend to promise "Change"...tend to be rather good at whipping a crowd into a frenzy...and focus on taking the rights of one group so that another can advance without restraint...and restricting firearms to government & police only...

Remind you of anyone?
