Default 22lr cz or.......

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a 22lr and have been told that the cz 452 varmint 22lr is a great rifle, has any one else any suggestions on a good 22lr?

Thanks

Dan

I agree CZ's are great, also look at a Ruger 10/22 perhaps the best 22 rifle ever made.

I have a CZ 452 sporter and it is a very nice rifle. The trigger needs a little work and there are instructions on line. Mine has a BSA 3-9X40 Sweet 22 scope that dials the distance. You might also consider the Savage and Marlin bolt rifles. My wife has a Savage MKII in 17HM2 and it is also a very nice rifle. The Savage MKII BVT 22lr is exceptionally accurate. I recently bought a MKII FV-SR which looks like it will be very accurate also but the factory plastic stock sucks. I will add a cheek piece or change the stock to a Boyd Evolution.

Thanks for the comments guys, greatly appreciated, my uncle mentioned ruger, however it was a semi auto he had so was costing him in ammo.........I am looking to fit a Hawke sidewinder 30 series on my new purchase with mill dot sight. Also I am looking at getting a 17hmr, but I have heard of a 17m2, can you advise on this as am unsure at this time.

Perhaps NOT too. They're fine rifles and you can make them into great rifles but it will cost a bundle. A CZ is a very nice bolt action rifle that will shoot great and look great for a long time to come.

My CZ is a 453 though. I love the better trigger and despite what people say, I've never seen a doctored 452 trigger that is anywhere near the quality of the 453 set trigger.

BTW from what I understand the varmint barrel on the 452 is a waste and a lot more weight to carry around. The sporter version shoots just as accurate and won't wear you out carrying it around all day hunting. Besides that it's getting hard to find 452's since they have stopped making them. The 455 is replacing the 452.

Marlin XT-22 series...they took the adjustable target trigger from the X-7 series and set it up for Rimfire

Basically, its a Marlin 25N/880/925/980 with a new stock & trigger...just a continuation of a very precise breed!!

Also about half the price of the other guy's...and Made In America!!

Switching to 17??

Marlin XT17 or a CZ would be the best choices...

The 17HM2 is a 22lr necked down to 17. 2100 fps compared to 2400 fps for the 17 HMR. Ammo is about 1/2 the price of the HMR. Both are very accurate when the wind is down. The 17 HM2 has not had the popularity of the 17 HMR but some squirrel hunters like it a lot. Capable of head shots out to 100 yards.

Big shrek don't panic, I am going for a CZ 22lr but am looking at either getting a 17hmr or 17m2 just not sure what the differences were. Thanks for your advice big shrek. Jtj thanks for your explanation, I have a weihrauch hw100 air gun and have seen weihrauch do a HW60j, have you had any experience with this gun as it is a lot more expensive to purchase than a CZ model 17, your thoughts?
