Default .22lr .22 long

Is there a difference between these two types of rounds?

Originally 22 LR had a 40gr. bullet or a 37gr. hollow point bullet. 22 Long was/is the same case length with a 29gr. bullet with a weaker powder charge.

The story of .22 rimfire is interesting. The .22 short was the first caliber/ cartridge used by S&W (Model 1). The .22 LR was well balanced and some claim the most accurate cartridge prior to WWII. The .22 long has fallen pretty much by the wayside; its .22 short bullet and its .22 LR case were a mismatch. The .22 short has found a home in match pistol and getting rid of pests on the quiet side. Th .22 LR is used for almost everything else. I believe I have 2 boxes of longs and I expect they will be passed to my grandson as a curio.
