Which .22 target pistol to buy?
I wanted to get folks' input. I want to get a .22 target pistol, but am not sure which to buy. I've never bought a .22 before, so I need some advice.

Here are a few choices that have been suggested. Which of these do you like? If you have another, please list:

-- Beretta Neo
-- Smith 22A
-- Colt Woodsman
-- Browning Buckmark
-- Browning Challenger
-- Ruger Mark II
-- Ruger Mark III

Missing one maker
High Standard .22 caliber Supermatic Tournament
Supermatic Citation
Supermatic Trophy
Olympic I.S.U.
Victor Target
These handguns have the rear sight fixed to the frame not the slide for enhanced accuracy.

mine is a U.S. Military marked 107 Supermatic Citation a wonderfully crafted .22 handgun, It shoots better that I can.
You will be doing darn good to find one for less than $400 in good shape.

-- Beretta Neo I have the 6.5" model and love it very fun to shoot and so easy to take care of a cave man can do it.
-- Smith 22A I didn't like this one because of the ergonomics of the grip and placement of the mag release
-- Colt Woodsman Get it if you can find one.
-- Browning Buckmark See Colt. These are great shooting guns that look as good as they shoot.
-- Browning Challenger Haven't seen one.
-- Ruger Mark II I have a 67/8" barrel govt target model it is the most accurate 22 pistol in the world. Many squirrels have died at 50 yards or less to that pistol.
-- Ruger Mark III Same as the MkII but they have the lawyer safe loaded chamber indicator on them to make them ca stupid safe. I will not own one because of that.

Ruger MarkIII with a red dot scope on it is the most accurate .22 pistol I have shot but I have experienced gas blow back in my eye from that gun more than once. I also enjoy shooting a Walther P22 but it is not as accurate as the ruger.

Browning challenger ll. It shoots way better than me and is so easy to take apart and clean. I bought mine new in 1982, the last year they were made I believe. 6 & 3/4" barrel and the grips are very ergonomic.

High Standerd
Nothing more simple to take down than one them High Standerd's my brothers old model sport king is the fastest by far remove the mag and toggle the release lever forward and the tougne & groove barrle and the slide all slide forward off the frame.
The others have a push button but just as simple, push the button and the barrel slides off the frame, remove the mag the slide, glides straight off to the front down the frame rails just like the machined ways of a bench lathe slick & easy.:)

My 2 cents...
Browning Buckmark...10 round magazine...ergonomics like a 1911...very accurate.

I love my Walther P22. Although an Mark II or Mark III is more accurate, its not far off. I originally got it because its a heck of a lot cheaper to practice with and I wanted a 22lr handgun with a slide.

I love my Mark III. I would highly recommend it. There's nothing better than a nice sturdy pistol to shoot up some cheap ammo.
