.22 semi auto

Hi, I have .22 semi auto and on the gun it says .22 short,long or long rifle and when I try to shoot shorts they jam up. What do you think the problem is?

What model .22? Stevens 87A by chance?

It's a Remington model 550. It's a older gun.

I don't think most semi-autos will feed shorts properly. Shorts are meant for lever actions and pumps.
