.22 Pump Actions

I just held an old Winchester pump today and needless to say I'm in love with them.

What do they have in modern rifles that's a good pump and what would you suggest?

I saw a Henry pump action with an Octagon barrel...not sure on that one...and then I really like the Taurus Model 62 but it's discontinued.

I have one and have been in love with that gun since I was a kid. I think Taurus builds a modern version.

The Winchester Model 90 .22 Pump

I have a Winchester Model 90 .22LR pump. My Dad got it from his Grandfather as a .22 short gallery gun, octagonal barrel and all. He had it re-chambered to Long Rifle in the 50’s while we were living in Sacramento, California which required replacement of the octagonal barrel with a modern round barrel. I learned to shoot with this gun and it has given me and my family probably over 80 years of fun and excitement.

The Model 90

If my research is right, this gun was first introduced by Winchester in 1890. It was designed by the Browning Brothers and was the first Winchester slide action (pump) rifle. The Browning Brothers manufactured guns in Ogden, Utah and produced 600 Browning single-shot rifles before the company turned over the patent to the Winchester Arms Company. Early Winchester model 90 rifles were constructed with a solid frame from 1890 - 1893, some 16,746 rifles. Mine is a takedown model which was available later. The first series and early second series models had case hardened receivers, then after 1901, when the third series was introduced, they were blued. They were produced by Winchester from 1890 through 1941 with 764,365 guns produced in that time. The rifles were chambered in the following Calibers : 22 Short, 22 Long Rifle, 22 Short , 22 Long and Long rifle and 22 WRF.

Doesn't look that bad but my middle finger is bigger than the image!! Can't tell what the breach, chamber or barrel look like.

The Reminton 572 was the first gun that was all mine. I was 12 (and that was a looooooong time ago). A quality, American made 22 pump. That was the beginning of my love affair with guns:).
