Talking to my mother today about the rifle I purchased recently, she started to say how much she wants to get back into shooting. Shooting is all around our family (my mom shot a deer when she was younger, i have never seen her hunt) and she used to shoot skeet competitions with a .22, though she has not in quite some time. Does anyone know any specific brands/models that are built for competition shooting, or specifically skeet shooting? Any suggestions if there are not specific purpose built guns?

Well, depends entirely on the competition your Mom wants to engage in. And no, it probably will NOT be Skeet with a 22. Most skeet ranges will not permit it for safety reasons (12 g birdshot- dangerous to 50 yds, 22LR, dangerous to 1 mile)

If she wants to get into informal plinking at 25-50 yds, there are a TON of fun 22s out there- someone is likely to reccommend a Ruger 10-22.

I shoot bullseye at 50 and 100, and use a bolt action 22 target rifle (heavy barrel, adjustable tigger, free floated barrel, etc) You can spend $2000 on an Anshutz, less than that for a Winchester or Kimber, or MUCH less than that for a Mossberg (144, 146, 44US, etc) And they are ALL very good rifles.

Any idea what kind of shooting she might like? If she is around VA, would be glad to meet y'all at the range and bring an assortment to let her try- but not for skeet.

thanks for the info C3. after reading everything on here about the ruger 10/22 i bought one earlier this week, as i was looking to add a .22 to my arsenal. talking to my mother some more, she said the competition shooting she did was laying down, bullseye shooting. im not sure why i had it in my head that she shot skeet.

Im hoping to get her to go to the range with me to shoot the ruger, maybe even my AR-15 (just for kicks)

CZ 452 does very well in competition. Savage Mk II with Accutrigger and heavy barrel does very well too. 10/22 won't do as well stock.

yeah my 10/22 is going to be my plinking/ varmint gun, although i have been looking at a stainless bull barrel and a hogue stock
