I use it in the top barrel of my 22 mag derringer w HP in bottom. It disperses so fast and penetrates so poorly that I began to reconsider my reasoning.

Rationale to begin with: self-defense from two legged varmints. Shot round first for warning shot ( w/o worrying about where round will land) or to the face to blind & allow me to get away. Gives lawyers less ammo to use against you as #12 shot isn't normally considered lethal and if they still kept coming, they WERE intent on doing you harm and deserved the HP.

As was stated before, effective range is about 10 feet.
A note of caution however, try to find the CCI one's with the plastic nose and not the Winchester shells that are crimped.
The reasoning behind this is better feeding in a semi-auto weapon and better patterning at the 10' range.
