Off Topic - Have you considered .22 WMR (magnum) rifles? I own one but haven't shot it much; not my kind of round. It has the weight of .22 with a bit more speed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_magnum I found the ammo is not nearly as inexpensive as .22LR.

This is the kind of BS that pisses me off. At 200 yards it has 70fpe w/ a 17gr bullet. I doubt you'd penetrate the skull. Even a 20gr gamepoint drops to 66fpe. You'll damb sure injure the yote, but kill it, BS.
For a .223 w/ a 55gr to hit 70fpe, it would have to travel over 1000 yards. No one would ever consider that shot. The drop w/ that 17gr bullet at 200 yards is 8.5" w/ a 100 yard zero. Don't buy what you're selling for a second.

I have to disagree with you. The guy that shot that pig at 400 yards from a moving truck would take that shot.

If you are shooting rabbit for meat and unsure about your ability to take head shots get a .22. If you some day want to use it on bigger game .17 hmr. You are right about aprox 8 inch drop at 200 yds. The windage debate .17 compared to .22 ( which is the question) in my opinion not enough to worry about.

I apologize but I did take a coyote size dog at 197yds with a shot to the back of the head that was stalking one of my calfs. And yes back of the head is still a head shot.

I think you'll find the 22lr to be more versatile. I used to have a 17hmr. It was a very accurate round... when the wind wasn't blowing.
