74,

I would highly recommend the Marlin 917-V. Second the Savage 93-R. As far as a scope that is up to how much your budget is total? If you would give us your top dollar for the project that would help giving scope selections.
I like many here have several weapons but non I enjoy shooting more than my little Marlin 917-V.
They are inexpensive to shoot as well as very, very, accurate and with 2500 fps a fantastic little weapon!

They have the savage 93 for 215 at my LGS and I would like to spend no more than 100 on the scope.

Optics are almost overwhelmingly stocked up at all retailers. Only problem is that with ammo and firearms beeing in such demand, it limits stores online sales ads to basically optics and rifle bags. You shouldn't have an issue picking yup a decent scope for a good price.

I like your setup. I currently have a very similar XT-22VR. I'd love to get a bigger/tactical bolt handle like you have. Can you tell me where I can get one?

I've taken it out to the range a couple of times. Amazing little rifle for sure. The accu trigger that Savage puts in this rifle is amazing.

The BSA Sweet 17 scope if very nice too. I like how once you get it 100% zeroed you can take the adjustment caps off and reset them to zero on the windage and elevation. You can also reset the bullet input and then is easy to adjust the bullet weight and yardage with a simple turn of the dials.

I was going to buy a 17 hmr but I ended up with a 22 wmr. The 17 hmr bucks the wind about like a 177 cal pellet rifle. It lacks the energy to hunt anything but the smallest game. On paper the 17 hmr is a very interesting cartridge but in practice it doesn't work out so well.

The 22 wmr fired from a rifle has almost as much energy as a 9mm pistol. 30 gr ballistic tip ammo allows you to take coyote sized game cleanly at extended ranges. The animal doesn't suffer and follow up shots are rarely needed. Plus you can shoot 45 grain 22 wrf ammo in a 22 wmr. The 45 grain wrf cartridge is the perfect cartridge for rabbits. It doesn't destroy much much meat but it puts the rabbit down on the spot. You never see a rabbit jump in the air and cut a flip after being hit with a 22 wrf.
