2 Attachment(s)
Just picked up 4 different types of ammo for my H&R sportster .17hmr.
- Winchester 2375 FPS 20 gr. - Federal Premium 2550 FPS 16 gr. Polymer tip - CCI 2550FPS 16 gr. hollow point - Winchester HV Varmint 2550FPS 17 gr. polymer tip V-max Anyone else have a favorite type of .17 ammo? Any feedback on the types I'm using? Favorite rifles w/ pics if you can |

I haven't had the chance to really try different types of ammo yet, but the one type I did shoot (Winchesters V-max) shot very well. I haven't shot this rifle much at all, literally just 30 rounds through it......I know because I still have 20 rounds left. Haha
Being that its my only .17HMR so far, my Savage 93R17 is my favourite. It in my opinion even beats out my girlfriends Marlin XT-22, but that's not including ammo costs. The scope on it is a BSA Sweet 17 that's has target turrets for the 17grn bullets. |
You forgot Hornady's offerings, which I hear are very good.

I would stay away from the Super X, but the other three are pretty good.

the two 17HMR brands of ammo i have had great success with are the Hornady 20gr XTP and the Remington 17gr Accutip-V Boat Tail ammo. both group very well in my Savage M93r17 rifle.

Kind of surprised you guys have had issues with it. I've checked the 20 rounds left in one box and rolled the others around when I bought them and haven't had anything strange or abnormal happen.

I'd just like to say, I take back my earlier statement about the Winchester ammunition. After these boxes I have left, I won't be buying any more. I fired all of 8 rounds from one of the boxes I had "saved" since I was buying one every time I went to Walmart. After I fired the 8th shot I couldn't chamber my 9th, nor my tenth. Thing it was just those two I reloaded the mag and tried again with no luck. Looked down into the chamber and there it was.....a stuck case. Turns out it was split from the top to damn near the bottom of the case.
(Poor picture, but best my iPod would do.) |
