On a more serious note please post your accuracy results this would be coming out of a 24.8" barrel (CZ 455 Traing Rifle). Thanks an happy shooting!

best in terms of what parameters? what intended function will the rifle be used for?

and just listing a barrel length is hardly defining the parameters.

i'm sorry but you question is way too vague to even give any type of informed opinion to.

I see 17HMR on the shelves everywhere I go. Can't remember the last time I saw 22Mag. If you can't fed it a rifle is fairly useless.

I have both. I have better accuracy and longer range from the 17. It's become a favorite. Nothing against 22 mag but I believe the 17 is more effective and accurate.

the 17hmr can be more accurate at longer distances, as long as the wind isn't blowing!

This is way I favor the 22 mag. I would love a 17 but the 22 mag bucks wind better and I like having a rifle and revolver that take the same cartridge.

exactly true. this is why I like having both as well as the previous poster said.

both have their strong and weak points. the 17 is a bit faster than the 22, but it also carries a heavier bullet than the 17. the 17 has an edge at longer distances as long as there isn't any prevailing wind, but the 22 will withstand that same wind better, but has a little less distance.

to choose or advise for one or the other, if I wanted to stick more to longer distance rimfire target shooting, i'd suggest the 17hmr, if more for hunting uses, i'd suggest going with the 22 mag. just my

I have a Ruger single Nine and love it. I still think the 17 is a more accurate and effective cartridge. JMO......

It may very well be but I have had that single six since I was ten and admit I am a bit biased. In all honesty there is likely a hill of beans difference between the two when you factor in wind etc. I do know that a 22 Mag is bad medicine on a ground hog at 75 yds.
