The Marlin rimfire rifles without iron sights will (should) include the set of weaver bases and they're tapped for those bases. All the 900 series rifles should be drilled/tapped for scope bases whether they have iron sights or not. Some of the older Marlin rifles were not drilled/tapped but all the 900 series should and I believe the XT's are the same.

Just thought I'd confirm midnights thought. The xT series does indeed come drilled/tapped for a scope. It also has a weaver rail if you want a cheaper scope from Walmart or similar places.

Mine wears a Bushnell Trophy 4-16x42mmAO. Sure it is only a $200.00 scope, But with Warne rings it is very solid. What does, or how do Weaver bases equal cheap scope? My 7mm Rem mag, 6.5x55, have Weaver mounts. They are serious hunters. You could buy Leupold rings and a cheap scope.

Forgot to include the details of my 917V.

Currently it's wearing a BSA Catseye 6-24x44 scope on factory Weaver bases and Weaver Grand Slam rings, a Boyds Nutmeg laminate thumb-hole stock and a Rifle Basix trigger set at 2-lbs. It shoots Federal, Hornady, Remington and CCI the same.

It's been rumored all the 17HMR rounds are loaded in the same factory, I haven't been able to confirm this though.

I didn't mean that as all weaver mounting scopes are cheap. Just mean that budget shooters (at least me) tend not to got for a $100+ scope and usualy try to find one with rings already on it. Those usualy tend to be "cheaper" then having to buy a scope and then rings.

savage M93r17 with the heavy target barrel, mounted a BSA 6-18x40 scope, glass bedded the stock. likes the hornady 20gr XTP the best, and the remington 17gr Accutips next. i bought mine because i wanted a rimfire for target shooting. the only downside to it, is wind. on a windy day, bullets are all over the place.

i too like express said, heard most all the 17hmr ammo was loaded in the same factory. CCI, if i remember correctly.

I think you're talking about the 3/8" dovetail machined into the receiver. Two thin slots cut down both sides near the top? A Weaver base/rail is what is pictured below.

But yup, dovetail is what I meant to say, not weaver.

Group,
I did a conversion to .17HMR with a Ruiger 10/22 magnum. I had to ship action and barrel back to Shilen. They gsve me a new barrel and tuned it up. I have. Leupold VXIi 6 X 18 X40 SIscope on it. It shoots lights out and cycles perfectly. No jams or bulged cases. Shilrn knows their stuff. This conversion is very difficult to do with a blow back action, but I have one and it is priceless to me. I put it on s gorgeous walnut stick from Macon. Issue To be resolved is chamber size and tuning it that way. Shilen did it, and I am very happy.
