Yes, I think the older you get, the more a scope helps. I tried a red dot sight on my Colt M4 .22 and it didn't help one bit. I could shoot better with the iron sights. However, I put a 4x scope on my GSG-5 and I could not believe the accuracy. I was literally cutting the hole out of the center of the target at both the 25 and 50 yard markers. Yep, magnification is a definate plus for us older shooters.

I totally agree-that's why every single rifle I have is scoped.

I'm getting one for Christmas in stainless with the composite stock and I'm pondering the same question about sights. I've got an older Bushnell on another .22 that I think I'll just mount on this one.

Personally, I think a scope would suit me better because the red-dot sights don't magnify, plus I don't really think fast target acquisition is something I'll need with a .22.

I like the fiber optics because they're so easy to see, not because they're fast to acquire. With the see through rings and scope, I figure it's the best of both worlds. However, the higher scope mount will take some getting used to.

Does what you're talking about magnify the target?

Nope. Fiber optic sights just pick up ambient light, so they look like they're illuminated. It does make them much easier to acquire and I have old eyes.

Here's a link to the HiViz sights for a 10/22. I bought mine on Amazon for about five bucks cheaper. I put a red f.o. rod in the front sight for contrast.

M'kay, I thought you were talking about red-dot sights.

i find myself doing the same. i used to use iron sights only 20 years ago. now if its not a handgun its got a scope on it. maybe i need to go see the lasik guy...

i was looking at the 10/22's for my first rifle, and noticed that the target model doesn't come with any open sights on it. Can those be added post purchase? i want to get used to open sights first either way....and computer screens have weakened my eyes but with only 38 laps around the sun, i dont want to go right to the scope.

the one time i did fire a .22 rifle at summer camp, the one with the peep sight was the most accurate.
