10/22 rail?

I bought my son a ruger 10/22 for Christmas and in the box it came with a rail to mount a scope and four bolts to attach it to the rifle. But Im wondering why there are no mounting holes on the rifle? Is this something that has to be drilled and tapped?

Are you saying that there are not the four plug screws on the top of the receiver?

None that i saw. But it is digital camouflage so maby i just didn't see it.

That camo must really be good. The screw slots may have been filled. Run a small magnet over the top of the receiver. The receiver is aluminum and the screws are steel so they should show up. They should be slotted and there should be 4 of them.

I will have to try that when i get home tonight after work.

Did you buy it new or used? Maybe it's a magnum. Does it have a couple of funny looking lugs on top of the receiver? How about ngroves? Does it have a couple of groved along the top of the receiver?

No i looked at it the other night and the bolts in the receiver are pained the same as the receiver so i didn't see them. I bought it brand new and have yet to fire it, waiting for my son to open it on Christmas.

Thay are there. I have the same one and they are not easy to see. You will see the seperation between them and the reciever on close inspection. Bye the way, that is an accurate little gun right out of the box. Put a 4x12 on it and it is great!!

Yah Im gonna see what my boy can do with it right out of the box and if he wants to do anything to it his birthday is in march so i know what to get him if he wants a scope. Thanks.
