Default 10/22 50 yds with open sights

So being a newb, I couldn't wait to get out and shoot my 10/22 this past weekend. I haven't invested in a scope yet as I want to get used to iron sights first. The thing is I have no expectations of what is good so I really don't know how well I did.

Looking at this, can anyone tell me? Please be gentle if it sucks... :-)

That's outstanding, especially for your first time out!

To be honest, my first target was no nearly as good as I figured out exactly how to line up these iron sights. I was thinking the second target (the first one I posted) was pretty darn good until someone made a comment that made me second guess that assessment.

Here's the first target. For the record, I'm pretty sure several flew by high as I was way off in using the sights.

What is the best way to practice and improve before moving on and adding a scope? I want to have strong fundamentals, but I can't wait to get a scope and put together some nice groups.

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree. Seems to be shooting slightly left but you peppered that target quite well! Especially seeing as the stock 10/22 trigger pull is pretty lousy. It's the only complaint I have with the gun. How many rounds was that?
Next time, get a good rest, take your time and shoot 3 to 5 rounds. See where the group is and fine tune the center of the group from there. Enjoy that gun!

Looks good. It appears your windage needs a little adjusting. I'd drift your rear sight to the right a tad, or the front sight to the left. You are grouping to the left so this will bring it more to the center. Or you could just simply aim to the right a little.
