Default 02-22 question

hello members my question is, I am picking up a winchester model 02-22 short pat. in 1899 believe it was built in around 1914-1919. it says long and extra long on it wondering what rounds it is chambered for. I believe it takes shorts and longs but unsure about the extra longs, or if I can even get extra longs. I would appreciate any info, this is a kids gun with extra long and detailed trigger guard. thanks mowgli

You will not find extra longs except among cartridge collectors. It is an obsolete round that went out of production in 1935.

In THEORY- a rifle chambered for /22 Extra Long will also shoot shorts, longs, and long rifles. I would STUDIOUSLY avoid any high speed/ ultra/ golly gee .22 ammo in a rifle that old. The Extra Long was originally a black powder cartridge, with 6 grains of powder.

CCI .22 Shorts. Those were very nice old rifles.
