Wow. These are some great prices. I put off a build because I did the stock, forearm, mag and scope for my SKS. May have to build an AR too. Hard to pass up on prices like that.

Also, you would still need some type of rear sight or optics.

what would you recommend for a SHTF gun if the budget was more closer to $1000?

One of those with some ammo and optics. Perhaps a minor upgrade here or there.

Listen to Slo - He has built more AR's than just about any of us here.

Would I want a chrome lined barrel? Is there a lower that comes with a different stock? Like a 6 position one?

Chrome lined barrels were designed for fully automatic, sustained fire.

Chances are good that you are never going to run that many rounds through the weapon.

Chrome lined barrels are less accurate, but much easier to clean.

Barrels without lining are more accurate, but they are a bit harder to clean.

Changing a stock is easy. I would recommend on getting a good deal on a lower and shopping for the collapsible stock that you want after the fact.

So if I bought that lower, I could change that stock to a collapsable one when I wanted?

Give me a shout if you decide to go that route. Jimmy at A Pawn has some complete M4 uppers for about that same price including FFL fees and probably has all the other necessary parts too.

Rock River Arms: Elite CAR A4 Upper Half

What guys do you think about this upper? I was thinking of the first option on there, the $520 one. It says it comes without the carry handle(fine with me) or mount. Is the mount they are talking about the mount the handle
comes on? Is this a good deal?
