Will uppers still be available
My next gun purchase was going to be an AR-15. Actually my first build. I currently don't have enough money for one. I could most likely scrounge enough money together for a lower before a ban if one takes place. I was not a gun owner during the 94-04 ban, which brings me to my question.
During the last "assault ban" could you still get uppers or was that banned as well. I'd hate to spend money on a lower and not be able to get the parts I need for the rest of the build.

Actually wondering the same thing. I have two lowers. One almost complete.

I don't see why not. Uppers aren't a serialized or registered part.

Try to find parts right now, then repost that statement.
They are gone.
On a different tone, I scored a new DPMS m4 upper for cheaper than retail this evening.

You are not answering the question. Parts are gone because of the pandemonium caused by the tragic events in CT, the fact it is the holidays, and the fact that most major manufacturers of AR15 parts are closed for holiday break.

I think the OP was asking if upper receivers would be banned, not if they would be plentiful.

Ho-lee-cow Nancy, let me apologize.
OP.
the parts will be backordered for quite some time. A ban will not be enacted before those backlogs are filled.
Purely speculation though.

It amazes me how little is remembered of the last ban, I was 6 when it took effect. The only things that were banned were:
Collapsible/folding stocks
Magazines manufactured after the ban of over 10 rounds.
Bayonet lugs
flash hiders and other muzzle devices.
You can buy a truckload of ARs AKs and whatever else you want.
All these items were grandfathered in.
They still sold these rifles with 'pre-ban' mags every day.
Nothing was flat out banned.

That was then. They're pushing for BANNING platforms erroneously dubbed assault rifles. Not just a few parts.

IMHO, if the national attention isn't on to who Snookies new baby daddy is before legislation is enacted and an actual ban is passed. It will most likely only apply to lowers, high capacity magazines, folding stocks and similar "scary" things like the previous ban. There are a ton of mom & pop shops and major suppliers that manufacture the parts and pieces, so they should be plentiful. It may take awhile for certain things to be available again because of the backlog, like BCG's (Bolt Carrier Groups).
This is just one man's opinion.
